Diamonds change indigenous’ lives

The Times has a great article on the abrupt changes and troubles that diamonds have brought to the Cinta-Larga tribe in Brazil, exploring the tensions between miners, the government and the tribe’s own greed.
“Back then, we had no idea what diamonds were worth,†recalled Roberto Carlos Cinta-Larga, a tribal leader who, following tradition, uses the tribe’s name as his surname. “We didn’t have money in those days and didn’t even really know what money was, because our nature was to stay apart from everyone else and not cultivate friendships.â€
It’s a great read, make sure to check it out. Also make sure to catch Blood Diamond at the theaters, they explore almost the same subjects – it might just make you reconsider next time you buy that bling bling.
So lately my blog has be plagued with spammed comments, it got to a point where I had to close the comments completely. So until I fix this you will have to register in order to comment. Annoying yes, I hate it too.

Damn spam, it was also crowding my mail accounts.
Look who is back…
Well, it has been…what months? since my last post, yeah it’s been a while. I am not going to explain my absence but rather talk about the future. 2007 is a few days away and its time for a new blog, completely redesigned (simplified) and much more content. Ok, well that’s it, I’m gonna keep it short and simple on this one.
Nintendoria
I have a weakness for anything Nintendo, old school Nintendo. I grew up with Nintendo games, systems, PJ’s and cartoons. Nintendo’s golden days are over but they are still resonating in people’s hearts. Here are a couple of interesting Nintendo related links:

Casa Mario – A room decorated wall to wall with Super Mario World levels. Very cool idea.

The Real Paper Mario – Make your own 3D Nintendo charaters out of paper.

8bit Peoples – Nintendo inspired music, also known as Nintendocore. They extract game sounds and recompose them to make crazy beats. Make sure to check the site for tons of Mp3s.

Lego Mario – Here’s a good example of someone having a lot of free time on their hands with a love for Mario.
New camera!
So I finally got a new camera, after months of photo depravation I got some new hardware. I was really considering a Nikon DSLR but since almost all other photographers that I know shoot with Canons, I went with a Canon. I got the Canon 30D, amazing camera, solidly built, big LCD screen (2.5″) and great image quality. I can’t wait to fully test this bad boy out.
