Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to laugh your asses off. This is a hilarious PSA brought to you by SIIA about software piracy in 1992. Watch in amazement how ridiculous we used to dress and more importantly the use of floppy disks, where we had the capability of storing a whopping 1.4 megabytes!

The PSA was such a success that SIIA have just released a second version. Same talented rapper, this time flying through space to dance with Klingons and educate you about anti-piracy.

Seriously SIIA? Seriously?! Come on, watching those videos have only made me want to pirate more.

2. There used to be so much snow up here, you could strap a board to your feet and slide all the way down.

3. Televised contests gave cash prizes to whoever could store the most data in their head.

4. Well, the screens were bigger, but they only showed the movies at certain times of day.

5. We all had one, but nobody actually used it. Come to think of it, I bet my LinkedIn profile is still out there on the Web somewhere.

10 Best Things We’ll Say to Our Grandkids

“You have summoned the fail-whale!”

The sad thing about it, I still like to consider myself a Twitter….sigh.

Here’s a funny image as to what would happen on Twitter during a zombie outbrake.

Stereogum has put together an amazing compilation in tribute to Björk’s album Post. They have asked the bands Liars, Dirty Projectors, No Age, High Places, Atlas Sound, El Guincho, Final Fantasy & Ed Droste, Evangelicals, Xiu Xiu, Pattern Is Movement, Bell, White Hinterland to create their own renditions of Björk’s tracks. These are all original covers by the bands which have taken time off their tours and personal schedules to participate in the project. The album is available for free download at Stereogum’s Björk page, make sure to check out the track notes and interview with Björk!

Bjork Enjoyed

I flipped on the news today (yes, my actual television, not sure why) and the big story was Craigslist gone wrong. Someone placed an ad on Craigslist saying that anything at a home in Jacksonville, Oregon was up for grabs. People responded, and carted away most of the belongings of resident Robert Salisbury. He arrived home to thirty people picking over the last of his stuff. Even the man’s horse was taken.

It’s common for people to offer stuff for free on Craigslist, as long as you come and pick it up. It’s a bit of a stretch to imagine that people would think that an entire home’s worth of belongings would be given away on the site, but that’s a post for a different day. It’s worth pointing out, though, that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

I spoke to a couple of attorneys this afternoon about the potential liability of Craigslist for stuff like this. The victim has little recourse, other than insurance (I’m betting he has none) and a possible civil case against the person who posted the listing should he or she be caught. Could a litigiously minded individual find a winning argument to get Craigslist to pay for the damages? Perhaps, said the attorneys. And there are certainly plenty to lawyers who’d consider taking the case on contingency, hoping for a quick settlement/shake down to keep PR exposure over this to a minimum.

But what I really think is that Craigslist is just a mirror, and we have to take the good with the bad. Countless connections and transactions are made on the site, and the vast majority are of benefit to everyone involved.

Sure, mainstream press feasts on the occasional accident scene, making it seem like the site is a den of predators waiting to strike at anyone who drops by. Craigslist has it all – Sex, drugs, humiliation and more.

But for the most part Craigslist is just a really good place to find a job, or a boyfriend, or buy cheap furniture for your dorm room. The situation today is simply an exception that proves what an important place Craigslist has taken in our culture. I feel bad for Mr. Salisbury and I hope he gets all his stuff back (especially his horse). But pointing the finger of accusation at Craigslist for what happened is not what should happen next.

Thank you for welcoming me from a long day at work with such joy. You thought no one would hear you. You thought no one would see you, but I was present and truly, it scared the shit out of me. Thank you for letting out the biggest fart out your window as you searched for midnight snack wearing only your blue boxers.

Elf Yourself

As if x-mas wasn’t close enough, office Max has a pretty damn cool game where you put your face on a dancing elf and watch it dance. Great time waster for those lame afternoons at work: www.elfyourself.com

My friend’s band just recently released their new album “The Musician” and they have used one of my pictures for the cover. The band, Looking Glass Wars is an alternative indie rock band from Westchester NY. Brandon, their singer is a good friend of mine that I met years ago while designing a website for another friend’s band.

Blue Alley
The cover they used was a photograph I took back in 2006 in a alley near City Hall in NYC.

The album is now on sale in iTunes or you can listen to some of their tracks on MySpace.

Stay tuned as the band will be doing a special promotion on x-mas and we will be doing a fun shoot for it. Make sure to check out the band and support them by buying their music.

I’ve been meaning to update my blog for months now and finally got around to it. As you can see I changed the header image to match the season better. That picture was taken back 2003-04 I can’t quite remember, it’s a street near where I live. I added a music player dubbed “Potatoine Player”, I am still trying to figure out how to make it work while you are reading a post, I think it’s all in the CSS (geeky stuff). What else, what else? Oh yeah, I integrated my Last.fm weekly top albums and added an RSS feed of my Del.icio.us links. Oh wait…almost forgot, also added a small script that allows you to view images on the same page without sending you to another screen. Here’s an example:

Funny Gymnist

Pretty cool huh? Now we tune you back to your regular schedule.

Is it just me or is Facebook getting a bit too crowded? Ever since they opened its doors the public and with the addition of their 3rd party apps it seems like flocks of MySpacers and migrating to Facebook. It’s great but the site but I feel like MySpacers and Facebookians come from two different mentalities. Being on both social networks, I feel like hardcore MySpacers should stay on MySpace with their highly saturated useless content profiles and leave Facebook alone. I am seeing the same trends on arise on Facebook just as they did on MySpace, people adding lots of crappy applications to their profiles. I mean c’mon, when I takes me like 5 minutes just to find your damn Wall then we got a problem. I think it’s time to jump ship and find the next thing…once again…

Listening to Richard Cheese a while I was trying to find other funny/ridiculous song covers by other artists, here are the best 3:

The first one is by Avril Lavigne covering “Chop Suey” by System of a Down. It’s not really funny, more like…pathetic.

Second one is by Alanis Morissette covering Fergie’s “My Humps”.

Saved the best for last. I am sure you have seen this one already but it still cracks me up. William Hung’s rendition of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs”.

…she bangs, she bangs…Now I’ll have that song stuck in my head all day, thanks William Hung.

I was trying to think about what I enjoyed the most about a cold morning on my way to work. Here are a few things that just popped into my mind: Holding that warm coffee cup, steaming endlessly while I wait on the station for the train. Watching strangers awkwardly huddle together without touching or making any eye contact. Lighting the first cigarette of the day feels so damn good (fuck, I gotta quit). Turning your back to the wind as it picks up in your direction. Chap-stick. Feeling your hands start to go numb because you forgot your gloves. Seeing your breath every time you exhale. Shaking your legs almost as if you had to pee. Repeating in your head over and over again “Fuck it’s cold”. Yeah, that is why cold mornings are great….

Radiolina in iTunes
Shhh….don’t tell the RIAA but I have been ceaselessly listening to Manu Chao’s newest album La Radiolina, set to come out early in September. The album is a bit watered down and the music has become very repetitive and similar to previous albums except for a few songs that are more rock influenced ala Mano Negra, his previous band in the 80′s. Just like any new album, it will grow on me and I can’t wait for the actual release date to go buy the album and support this amazing musician.
